Scaling projects internationally with the District Cleantech

Our objectives

Our international ambition is built around 5 key goals:

  • attracting international startups, scouting new cleantech solutions and strategic partners,

  • Fostering direct collaborations between industrial players,

  • Research actors and startups,

  • Creating strong synergies between cleantech ecosystems,

  • Co-organizing international events and startup challenges to accelerate innovation.

The District Cleantech is strengthening its international positioning to accelerate cleantech projects and cross-border collaborations.

In 2025, this resulted in concrete milestones, including strategic trips to Paris and Lyon and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with Cleantech Open France and Cambridge Cleantech. These partnerships aim to facilitate startup attraction, joint projects, knowledge exchange and co-organized events.

Beyond these agreements, the District Cleantech builds on strong international roots shaped through the MIT REAP framework, which inspired the creation and structuring of our ecosystem. Active connections with Cambridge and the Boston cleantech ecosystem further reinforce our ambition to position Wallonia as a credible and connected cleantech hub.

International Connections

By engaging with District Cleantech, our members gain access to European collaborative frameworks and strategic programmes, including initiatives supported under the Just Transition Fund and other EU instruments. Through District Cleantech, they can participate in European projects by combining our local test zones with complementary testing environments across Europe.

Our ecosystem brings the expertise needed to structure projects, analyse and disseminate results, organise workshops and facilitate knowledge exchange. Our infrastructures can also serve as hosting sites for pilots, demonstrations and international collaboration, reinforcing both technological validation and territorial impact.
